BBC Bircher Smart Access optimizes logistics

New central warehouse in Czech Republic plus changes at Swiss headquarters

BBC Bircher Smart Access undertakes comprehensive measures to optimize space usage and material flow at various European sites.

The logictics reorganisation of the Swiss experts for access solutions is gaining shape: the new logistics site in Hranice (Czech Republic) started its operations in summer 2022. Finally, this idea with a long history became a reality: the new European Hub of BBC Bircher Smart Access enables to simplify logistics processes. This is beneficial mainly for the successful ExpertSystem XL safety edges portfolio. Its numerous product variants are now delivered from Czech Republic to customers across Europe.

New highly modern CareMat production in Beringen

Another module of the new logistics concept is the movement of the CareMat production at the Beringen site. Intended for use in healthcare facilities and private rooms, the pressure sensitive mats are a Swiss quality product and are very popular with customers worldwide. In the process, the production is put on a future-proof base: this included highly modern machines, mobile data acquisition and a conceptual reorganization of work stations and workflows.

Holger Kulik, Head of Production and Logistics at BBC Bircher Smart Access, comments: „We’re going to realize a better material and production flow, also known as one-piece-flow. As as result we will achieve shorter delivery times in a smaller space and with less energy comsumption than before. Furthermore we were able to reduce the necessary stock volume and inventory significantly.“ In the course of modernization the packaging for CareMat was optimized, too. The first pressure sensitive mats from BBC Bircher Smart Access with the new packaging were already delivered end of December 2022.

Customers and employees benefit from better workflows

The improvements of logistics processes as well as the further optimization of site capacities and space usage concepts are ongoing. Accordingly, there is a special focus on involvement and training of employees: regular workshops and discussion rounds distribute knowledge and enable participation. In the center of continuous optimization there is a focus on the customer and his needs – from a logistics perspective, this is mainly about the quick delivery of desired products. BBC Bircher Smart Access has accomplished vital steps on this path now and is continuing to do so in the future.
