Efficient handling of border traffic - with ProLoop2
The San Ysidro Port of Entry border crossing between Mexico and the United States is the second-largest in the world between countries: Alone more than 70,000 vehicles heading north pass through it every day. The efficient handling of border traffic is thanks to the Gatekeeper Intelligent Security system integrator, which has successfully completed over 1,500 projects in more than 30 countries since 2005. Fast and reliable opening and closing of the barriers is ensured by the ProLoop2 loop detector from BBC Bircher Smart Access: It is directly integrated into the system architecture and can be configured from a PC if required.
Starting point
The intense, often uninterrupted traffic at the San Ysidro PoE places high demands on the access systems used. The company was also looking for a solution that would function reliably, even in the severe temperature fluctuations in the Mexican-Californian desert (50 degrees and more). The barriers are opened and closed in each case via two induction loops located in the ground, the signals of which are continuously evaluated by the ProLoop2 for reliable detection of metallic vehicles of all types.

Solution
To ensure functionality under all circumstances, BBC Bircher Smart Access engineers developed a version with an extended operating temperature range that is even more robust for withstanding harsh environmental conditions. In addition, for Gatekeeper Intelligent Security, the option exists of connecting ProLoop2 to a laptop via USB cable and also even of changing settings in real time, e.g. for certain types of vehicles. A customized solution was thus developed and delivered, which optimally corresponds to the application.
